Paid Teaching Internship Opportunity for STEM Undergraduates 17 June – 12 July 2019

Interns will receive a bursary of £1,200 to cover expenses

We are delighted to offer the DfE Teaching Internship programme at schools across Buckinghamshire. The programme is for STEM undergraduates, primarily those in their penultimate year, who are interested in teaching Mathematics and Physics. It will offer Interns the chance to gain a deep understanding of teaching, in order to help them decide if it is the career for them.

The programme provides hands-on experience of life as a teacher, with 5 days core training at Wycombe High School and 15 days placement in a Good or Outstanding school in Buckinghamshire. During the school experience, Interns will observe and learn how to plan lessons, have the opportunity to team teach, support students in small groups and participate in leading extra-curricular activities.

Aside from gaining valuable work experience to put on their CV, Interns will benefit from a day of training in the application process. This will include sessions on: "How to shine at interview" and "How to write a great personal statement". Both the NMAPS and Astra Initial Teacher Training providers will also guarantee an interview to all interns successfully completing the programme, to join their programme at the end of their degree course.

Applicants will be required to attend an interview and complete a DBS check prior to beginning the programme. Please apply using the Application Form. Before you apply, please note that you will need to have registered with the DfE Get into Teaching website to gain a reference number and will also need the contact details of two referees, one of which should be academic, the other, ideally someone for whom you have worked in a paid or voluntary capacity.
