Cygnus Teaching School Alliance

Apply to become a Specialist Leader of Education with Cygnus

Would you like to progress your career while remaining in the classroom and getting professional recognition for your expertise?

We are looking for outstanding practitioners like you, who have a successful track record of school improvement and are interested in using their skills to help others.

We are currently recruiting both Primary and Secondary SLEs and welcome applicants with any specialism.

Have you got the skills and experience to become a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE)?

What is involved?

“It’s about sharing knowledge, skills and expertise”

SLEs are attached to a Teaching School Alliance, which for you, will be Cygnus.

SLEs develop the leadership capacity of individuals and teams in their own and other schools.  They act as ‘system leaders’, using a high-level coaching or facilitation approach that draws on the knowledge and expertise of the individuals and teams in their specialist areas.

There is no pre-defined time commitment for SLE outreach work.  This is subject to agreement with you and your school prior to deployment.

Models and types of deployments vary.  For example, one deployment might be a two-day diagnostic exercise, whilst another might require a more sustained time commitment.

Designation is for four years in the first instance, subject to continuing to meet the eligibility criteria, after which your SLE designation will be reviewed and updated.

SLE Core Training

Cygnus offers training to newly designated SLEs.

The objectives of the training are:
